City council approved Davis parks needs assessment and authorized inclusive playground at Playfields Park, staff says

Vice Chair (presiding), Davis Recreation Park Commission — At the Feb. 19 meeting the commission received brief staff announcements that the City Council approved the department’s needs assessment and strategic plan and separately authorized moving forward with design of an inclusive playground at Playfields Park.

Tamika, staff member — Tamika told commissioners the council approved both plans “which authorizes us to actually now move forward, and prioritize our future budget actions and projects consistent with the plan.” She added that council also approved authorization to continue design work on the inclusive playground at Playfields Park and that staff will return to the commission with design updates.

Staff also announced an on‑going children’s activity fair at the Vets Memorial Center with more than 20 vendors and provided summer registration dates: the department will release some popular camps (Campuda, Truckers and Horse Camp) on Feb. 26 and open registration for all other summer camps on March 12.

Why it matters: Council adoption of the needs assessment and strategic plan sets the department’s priorities for future budgeting and capital work. The inclusive-playground authorization signals the city’s next step toward design and eventual construction of an accessible playground at Playfields Park.
