The Taylor ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved two recruitment incentives on Feb. 24 aimed at attracting teachers before summer staffing decisions.
Early-decision incentive: The board approved a signing incentive to be paid in the employee’s first paycheck for staff who sign contracts before May. The program offers $1,000 for applicants with five or fewer years of experience and $1,500 for applicants with six or more years of experience. Administration said the funding source is federal Title II funds intended to support leadership and teacher retention; district staff said the strategy had been used successfully in prior years.
Secondary math signing bonus: Trustees also approved a targeted additional $2,000 signing bonus for applicants fully certified to teach secondary math (grades 6–12). District presenters said secondary math certification was a critical recruitment need; the additional payment will be funded from federal funds.
Motion and vote records: the early-decision incentive motion passed (motion and second recorded in the transcript); the signing-bonus motion likewise passed. Each measure passed on voice vote with a recorded 7–0 tally.
The approvals direct district human-resources staff to implement the incentives and proceed with recruitment activities tied to the board’s action.
