Tea Foundation, Taylor ISD present more than $35,000 in classroom grants

Board presenters said grants awarded this school year total more than $35,000 districtwide. Examples cited at the meeting included a $700 grant enabling storyteller Elizabeth Kahura to present a campuswide program at T.H. Johnson, funding for classroom sets of books in English and Spanish, resources to support a campus bookstore run by students, “soft start” carts with morning activities, a field trip for AP statistics students to an escape-room design exercise, a commercial-grade popcorn machine for a student initiative, a “Mallard Haven” environmental project, and living-museum experiences scheduled for May after STAAR testing.
District staff and Tea Foundation volunteers posed for photos and thanked teachers for grant proposals. Presenters said some grants were shared across campuses and described the grants as designed to increase student engagement and community connections.
No formal board action was taken on the grants during the meeting; the recognitions were presented as part of the agenda’s recognitions section.
