Doug Bowles, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, used the Town of Speedway state-of-the-town program to preview the 2025 racing slate, say the NTT IndyCar Series has a new national TV partner and announce the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum’s public opening on April 2.
Why it matters: The Indianapolis 500 and related IMS events significantly increase Speedway’s population on event weekends, affect town services and local businesses and require coordination with town public safety and public works.
Bowles said the NTT IndyCar Series’ new national partner, Fox, will air races and that broadcast support had national visibility, including Super Bowl ads tied to the series. “If you watch the Super Bowl, for the first time, really, in our history, we had Super Bowl ads, not just in the Indiana markets, but nationally,” Bowles said.
Bowles said Indianapolis 500 ticket sales were running ahead of last year and that, if trends continue, the event could sell more tickets than there are seats. He said ticket sales are roughly 9,200 units up on last year at the same point. Bowles forecast that race-week attendance could bring close to 350,000 people into the town of Speedway on race day.
On facilities and programming, Bowles said the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum will open to the public April 2 and described a “starting line experience” in the museum designed to simulate standing on the front stretch at the start of the Indy 500. He also described schedule items for 2025 including the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the addition of sprint cars during Sprint Week on the IMS dirt track, the NASCAR race in July and IMSA events later in the year.
Ending: Bowles thanked Speedway residents and businesses for partnering with IMS on events and said he looks forward to the coming months as the community prepares for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.
