Superintendent Kyle Treble summarized academic rankings, enrollment and several facility projects — including two athletics facility projects expected to complete in August — and said demographic shifts are increasing multilingual and free-and-reduced populations.
Dr. Kyle Treble, superintendent of the School Town of Speedway, told the state-of-the-town audience the district earned high state rankings last year, has seen rising multilingual enrollment and is proceeding with several facility renovation projects due to be completed in August.
Why it matters: School performance, capacity and facility upgrades affect families, property values and town services; rising multilingual and free-and-reduced rates can also influence district funding needs and programming.
Treble said Speedway High School and Speedway Junior High earned top statewide placements in 2023–24 rankings and cited multiple recognitions including AP Honor Roll status and two former National Blue Ribbon designations. “We continue to uphold our mission. We cultivate an outstanding culture and inspire excellence among our educators, administrators, and the entire Speedway community,” Treble said.
On enrollment and demographics, Treble provided figures for fall 2024: the district enrollment was 1,786 students; racial composition was about 38% white, 29% Black, 22% Hispanic and 11% other; free-and-reduced lunch eligibility stood at 61%; and students identified as multilingual (English learner / ML) were about 41% (roughly 735 students). He said 38 languages are spoken across the district.
Treble described two major facility projects labeled “Project A” and “Project C.” Project A is a new 11,000-square-foot end-zone building with varsity locker rooms, concessions, restrooms and a new track and field; Project C is the Speedway Athletic Complex that will add three courts, a weight room and updated restrooms and facilities. Both projects were described as moving toward completion in August.
Treble also listed multiple smaller building upgrades across older facilities built in the 1950s and 1960s and said the district is updating mechanical rooms and gym courts. He noted strong extracurricular participation, saying about 58% of the high school’s roughly 600 students participate in athletics.
Ending: Treble closed by thanking the community for support and promoting upcoming community events and activities tied to the schools.
