The Santaquin City Planning Commission voted unanimously on Feb. 25 to forward a positive recommendation to the City Council on a code amendment to allow detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in the R‑15 residential zone.
Staff said the amendment implements Strategy 1(e) of the city’s 2025 Moderate Income Housing Strategy: create or reduce regulations that restrict detached ADUs in residential zones. The change would amend Santaquin City Code Title 10 Chapter 16 Section 8 and Title 10 Chapter 20 Section 100 to permit detached ADUs in R‑15 and meet a benchmark of initiating this allowance before June 1, 2025.
Commissioners noted prior discussions of the item at earlier meetings and held a brief public hearing; no substantive objections were raised in the hearing. Commissioner Tolman moved to recommend approval; Commissioner Romero seconded. The vote was unanimous and the commission forwarded the recommendation to the City Council.
