The superintendent, Mister Banyo, described the sequence: jobs are posted by the district’s employee‑relations office (Karen Greco was named), candidates are screened by the athletic director and interview panels, the athletic director makes recommendations based on evaluations and new applicants, and the superintendent forwards recommendations to the board for approval.
Melnicki and other speakers said they could not find some head‑coach postings and said they saw assistant‑coach postings but not head‑coach listings. The business administrator and superintendent said postings are handled through the district’s online applicant system (AppleTrack), remain open a minimum of 10 days by code, and that once a posting closes it is removed from the live site. Staff said they will explore whether historical postings can be made viewable so members of the public can confirm that a position was posted previously.
One recurring public concern was whether the district tracks which coaches return each year so the district can follow up when a coach does not return. The superintendent said the athletic director makes year‑to‑year recommendations and that the board votes on superintendent recommendations; the board itself does not conduct the interviews.
Why it matters: Residents said clearer posting records and more transparent follow‑up on coach departures could help maintain program continuity and address perceived disparities between sports. The district described current practice and said it would explore options to make historical posting information available to the public.
