District adds sixth SRO, plans third-party site assessments under safety program

District safety officials told the board on Jan. 27 that the Elevate 2 safety program continues to expand, with a new sixth school resource officer added to the existing five and plans to contract a third-party firm for independent site safety assessments next year.
Mister Crowell, who presented the safety program evaluation, said annual site safety assessments involve SROs, administrators and custodial staff and that the district is updating emergency operations plans and building-access security measures. Crowell said the district is also increasing cybersecurity resources and continually seeks grant funding to pay for safety upgrades.
Starting next year the district plans to contract with a third-party agency to conduct non-biased site assessments, Crowell said; that work will inform the district's long-range facility plan. The board received no formal action request on the item; Crowell presented the evaluation for information and ongoing planning.
Crowell confirmed the district has added one SRO position, bringing the total to six, and said annual staff participation in relevant trainings will continue.
