Dr. Swan said the district contracted a firm from Hickory to perform a safety audit; initial work began at the start of the school year, and the superintendent’s Safety Council will review the results before the board hears the material in a closed session, noting that much school-safety discussion proceeds in closed session.
He asked board members to promote bus-driver recruitment during “love the bus month,” praised Child Nutrition for achieving multiple 100% ratings at listed schools and outlined plans for a Letter Land event at central office and a fifth-grade Agriculture Day on March 18. He also said Vowdy’s playground equipment will be replaced after the school year.
Dr. Swan flagged an administrative question about band-booster trailers: the trailers are owned by boosters, liability insurance typically covers whoever tows the trailer but contents may belong to the district and may not be covered; one Cavalier marching band trailer did have contents insured. He said staff will work with legal counsel and band sponsors to clarify procedure and insurance coverage.
The board received the informational update; no formal action was taken.
