The Cocoa City Council on Feb. 25 authorized travel and registration for two council members to attend emergency‑management training sessions the city budgets annually.
Staff said the city's budget includes funding for two council members to attend EMO training. Council members requested three slots across two separate sessions; staff asked the council to authorize the two registrations so the clerk may complete travel booking and registration.
Councilman Goins withdrew his request for one event to reduce the number of attendees; the council then agreed to register Deputy Mayor Weeks for an advanced training session in June and Councilman Goins for the March session. Councilmembers noted the city estimates registration, hotels and per diem during budget planning, and that actual costs sometimes differ from the budgeted estimate.
Councilmember Goss made the motion to approve the two registrations; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote with all present voting in favor.
Speakers on this item included staff member Jamati (presentation), Deputy Mayor Weeks, Councilman Goins and Councilwoman Goss. Staff said the authorization documents the council's approval so the city clerk can book and register attendees, and that the city will track other conferences (for example, Florida League of Cities events) as they arise and adjust budget estimates accordingly.
The authorization covers one advanced March session and one June session; staff will complete registration and travel arrangements following the council's vote.
