In a communications item, district staff reported that at the Feb. 11 board meeting seven community members commented on the restroom remodel project: two spoke in favor, four acknowledged benefits but expressed concern about cost and funding method, and one spoke as a recently retired person worried about cost. The staff response said the restroom remodel project "has been placed on hold indefinitely" and that the district plans a defeasement presentation at the board’s first April meeting to discuss next steps and how remaining bond funds might be used.
During the public comment period, Carol Blevins of the public asked how the district would respond to a federal executive order she said President Trump signed Feb. 5 and to guidance from the state office. Blevins urged protections for girls’ private spaces and for single‑sex sports divisions. "The girls need to be protected physically and emotionally in sports activities and their private spaces like restrooms and locker rooms," she said.
Blevins also referenced a Capitol policy change affecting some federal facilities and told the board the district’s existing single‑user restroom options could mean the remodel might not be required. The board did not take further action during the meeting; staff said they will schedule a presentation on defeasement of bond funds and return to the board for discussion of capital projects and next steps.
The district did not provide legal analysis at the meeting; the public commenter cited a federal executive order and a state education office statement. The board and staff indicated any capital project changes would return for future board discussion and possible public input.
