William Penn School District committee meeting lists multiple committee agendas and schedules first readings of four policies

The William Penn School District board convened a committee meeting at approximately 6:40 p.m. where chairs read committee agendas and scheduled first readings of four district policies; no formal votes or final actions were recorded.

Board members outlined a series of committee agendas that will move forward for future consideration, including community relations items such as kindergarten preregistration for the 2024–25 school year, school musical events at Penwood Theater, a Rotary Club of Upper Darby student-of-the-month recognition in Lansdowne, and district culture, climate and engagement surveys.

The meeting also listed personnel committee items including retirements, resignations, appointments, changes in assignment, leaves of absence, mentor and miscellaneous appointments, tenure awards, salary-track changes and modifications to previously approved personnel actions. The personnel agenda included a placeholder for additions to the agenda.

During the properties committee report the board listed D1: Walnut Street secure vestibule and D2: Delaware County Land Bank (listed on the agenda as the county land-bank item) for further consideration. The budget and finance chair noted a census report and announced a budget-and-finance committee meeting set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to be held virtually; committee emails had not been distributed at the time of the meeting.

On the policy side, the board scheduled first readings and entered them for the minutes for four district policies. The motions announced were to approve the first reading and enter the reading into the minutes for: William Penn School District policy 2001 (student access, student privacy and immigration information and enforcement); policy 222 (tobacco and vaping products for students); policy 227 (controlled substances and paraphernalia); and policy 323 (tobacco and vaping products for employees). No formal votes were taken on the first readings at this meeting.

A board member publicly thanked Dr. Bekos “for sharing our immigration policy,” a remark offered during the policy read-through. The board president closed the meeting after the committee reports with no additional public comment or formal action recorded.

Because the meeting primarily consisted of committee reports and agenda readings, next steps will be the scheduled committee meetings and formal readings or votes at later meetings where motions will return for consideration.
