Trustees urge stricter enforcement of dress-and-grooming policy; no formal policy change voted

Board members debated enforcement of the district dress-and-grooming policy after Trustee Whistler reported wide noncompliance at recent high-school events and on daily campus walks.
Trustee Whistler urged administrators to enforce modesty standards for students and staff at district schools, citing examples such as halter tops and other attire he said are inconsistent with the existing policy. Superintendent Tim Logan and building administrators told the board they already address dress-code violations and agreed to meet with school leaders to re-emphasize expectations.
Several trustees balanced enforcement concerns with practical priorities. Trustee Farr noted administrators already juggle many priorities and said enforcement will be calibrated against other operational demands. Trustee Parsons and others said parent and teacher engagement is necessary and recommended that the district ensure consistency across schools rather than unilateral enforcement by individual staff.
The board passed a motion to review policy JFJ (dress and grooming) and asked the superintendent to remind administrators of the district standard. No ordinance or policy amendment was adopted at this meeting.
