Board approves $1.07 million in HVAC upgrades for Silverland Middle and Sutro Elementary

The Lyon County School District Board of Trustees approved two facilities projects: replacement of the cooling tower at Silverland Middle School for $198,983 and replacement of boilers at Sutro Elementary School for $873,827.
Operations staff described both projects as turnkey, procured under GSA schedule contracts to secure pricing and limit inflation risk. Executives said the work is planned to be carried out primarily during the summer, with both projects expected to be completed before the next school year begins so construction will not disrupt classes.
Trustees asked about sequencing and coordination with other planned upgrades; staff said the cooling-tower project follows roof and other priority work identified in the district’s master plan and that project schedules are being coordinated through the master planning contractor. Trustee Peterson moved the contract approvals; Trustee Farr seconded. The board voted unanimously to approve both projects.
The district’s operations team will manage contractor coordination, site safety around construction zones, and weekly updates to the master-planning contractor. Staff told the board they will keep administrators and teachers informed to minimize disruption when crews are on campus.
