The DeSoto County School Board recognized school resource officers, the city marshal and district staff at its Feb. 25 meeting, presenting certificates and inviting the group for a photo.
Superintendent Dr. Bennett introduced and thanked officers and staff: "I feel like we have the finest city police and sheriff's department in the state of Florida," he said. He asked the SROs to come forward so the board could present certificates and take a photograph.
Named attendees and their assigned schools or agencies included deputy Denise (Memorial), Deputy Wiles (Nocatee), Deputy Albrecht (temporarily reassigned), Deputy Sutton (filling in), Deputy Marino (DSS), Debbie Leon (DHS), Sergeant Santos (DeSoto High School), Arcadia Police Department officer Tremble, lieutenant Bridal, Captain Timothy Hilderman, city marshal Gwen Jones and chef Jim Potter. Arcadia officer Allred was listed as not present.
The recognition was ceremonial; no board action or policy change resulted from the presentations.
