Wayne County PAC representative urges more local PAC parents, outlines regional supports for families of students with disabilities

Tanisha Bland, Romulus’ representative to the Wayne County Parent Advisory Committee (WCPAC), told the Board of Education that many constituent districts lack PAC parent representation and urged the district to help recruit a second representative.

Bland said WCPAC is composed of parent representatives from each constituent district and public school academy; members are parents of students with disabilities and serve three‑year terms. She described WCPAC’s role as a resource for parents — providing networking, paperwork guidance and connections to presentations and training — but stressed that WCPAC members are district representatives, not an advocacy organization for Wayne County.

"As a WCPAC representative, we network and develop relationships, share resources, learn from one another in our meeting presentations," Bland said. She summarized recent meeting topics — including voting rights for people with disabilities and other issues — and noted some officer positions for WCPAC are vacant after recent resignations; members will select replacement officers at an upcoming meeting.

Board members thanked Bland for her work and offered to help recruit additional representatives for neighboring districts that currently have no PAC parent. The board did not take action but acknowledged the presentation and Bland’s ongoing role supporting families of students with disabilities across Wayne County.

Bland encouraged board members to contact WCPAC leadership (Vida Lusk, Celeste Johnson and Don Bowman) for assistance with parent issues and to consider district support for PAC parent recruitment.
