Board approves meeting date change, personnel actions and unlimited school‑of‑choice enrollment

The board first approved an amendment to the meeting agenda to move the district’s next regular meeting from Feb. 10 to Feb. 12. The motion to amend the agenda was made by Vice President Davis and supported by Trustee Piles; the chair called the roll and the motion passed.
Under the consent agenda the board approved routine items including minutes of the Jan. 13 regular meeting and a set of personnel actions recommended by Human Resources Director Kevin Brock. The consent agenda motion was made by Vice President Davis and supported by Treasurer McCarthy; the roll call vote approved the consent items.
The board approved an amended contract for Janelle Edwards to serve as interim director of teaching, learning and professional development for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year. The board packet included the contract exhibits; trustees approved the amendment on a motion by Trustee Kennard supported by Trustee Piles. The board discussed — and asked that salary detail not be read aloud — that the interim appointment runs Jan. 1 through June 30; administration said the district intends to consolidate the duties into a comprehensive position effective July 1 if the interim assignment proves successful.
The board also approved the hiring of Kristen Chavez as adult education recruitment and retention specialist for 2024–25. The recommendation noted the position is intended to increase adult‑learner recruitment and completion; trustees approved the hire on a motion by Trustee Kennard supported by Treasurer McCarthy.
Finally, the board approved unlimited enrollment in schools‑of‑choice for grades K through 11 under Section 105/105c of the State School Aid Act, a recurring annual item. The motion was made by Vice President Davis and supported by Trustee Piles; trustees confirmed that the district annually reviews the schools‑of‑choice status.
All motions passed as recorded on the Jan. 27 roll calls. The items above were approved without further amendment.
