Belton ISD recognizes robotics teams and Meta donation after student showcase

District leaders highlighted competition results: presenters said Lake Belton won a Dragon Den Challenge and advanced multiple teams to state-level competitions; Belton New Tech earned Excellence in Innovation awards and advanced additional teams to state events. Administrators and trustees thanked the teams' instructors — including Andrew Berg, Pietro Justine, Jessica Percival and Steven Tyser — and invited student participants to demonstrate skills on a field set up in the meeting hall.
District staff and trustees also recognized a community partnership with Meta Temple Data Center. Meeting remarks credited Meta with a $10,000 donation that supported the robotics programming and the evening's showcase. Meta representatives Holly Davies, community development manager, and Derek Drawhorn, Temple Data Center director, were introduced at the meeting.
Andrew Berg, an assistant robotics coach at Belton New Tech High School, gave live commentary during a skills-and head-to-head demonstration and explained the autonomous and driver periods used in competition. The showcase included timed skill runs, scoring corners worth double points and head-to-head match play; students, coaches and attendees were invited to applaud the teams.
The recognitions and community partnership acknowledgment were ceremonial and informational; no board action was associated with the showcase or the acknowledgment of Meta's support during the meeting.
