Nevada council approves urban renewal tax split and several routine measures

The Nevada City Council at its Feb. 24 meeting approved the third and final reading of an ordinance providing for the division of taxes levied on taxable property in the Nevada urban renewal area, citing section 403.19 of the Code of Iowa, and approved a set of routine budget, street and utility items.
Council considered the urban renewal ordinance (identified in the meeting as "ordinance number 10 65 20 24 20 25") on its third and final reading and voted to approve the ordinance after no discussion was offered. The ordinance implements a tax-division arrangement for property in the city's urban renewal area as referenced in the meeting by "section 403.19 of the Code of Iowa."
Other items approved with little or no discussion included:
- A second reading of an amendment to Chapter 69 (parking regulations) to add provisions for snow-and-ice emergencies (referred to in the meeting as "ordinance number 10 66 24 25"). The council moved and passed the measure on the second reading during the meeting.

The council also discussed ongoing legal-review steps and contract language for a separate agreement under review by outside counsel (Dorsey & Whitney) and a reviewer identified as Burke; council members said the parties were close to finalizing bond verbiage and percentages before returning the agreement for final action.
