Belton ISD board adopts five broad district goals; staff to return with SMART targets

At a February 2025 regular meeting, the Belton Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 7-0 to adopt five overarching district goals that will guide district and campus planning.

Superintendent Dr. Golden asked trustees to approve the broad goals, which he said are intended to drive future measurable objectives and align district resources. "I'm coming to you this evening asking that you would approve these 5 broad overarching goals," he said during the presentation.

The goals, presented as a set of five (not ranked in priority order), center on providing exceptional student experiences; attracting, retaining and supporting employees; creating a culture of value and growth; strengthening stakeholder and community partnerships; and maximizing available resources. Dr. Golden told the board the district will return at a later meeting with specific SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, time-bound) goals tied to each overarching goal.

Trustee action: Miss Norwood moved to adopt the 2025–26 district goals; Miss Bass seconded. The motion passed by voice/hand vote, 7-0.

Board members did not request revisions to the broad goals at the time of adoption; Dr. Golden said campuses and staff are already conducting needs assessments to inform the upcoming SMART-goal proposals. The district noted that the specific implementation steps and any resource implications will be presented with the SMART goals.

The board's adoption sets the district's strategic direction for the coming year; staff will return with measurable targets and implementation plans for board review and approval.
