Fond du Lac Education Association announces formal support for April 1 referendum and schedules community outreach event

The Fond du Lac Education Association told the board it formally supports the Fond du Lac School District referendum on the April 1 ballot and will host a public outreach event March 5 at The Hive.
During two public comment periods at the Feb. 24 meeting, representatives of the Fond du Lac Education Association (FEA) told the board the union voted in January to support the district referendum that will appear on the April 1 ballot.
FEA speaker Miss Tompkins, identified as an art teacher and the FEA teacher PR representative, said members discussed the referendum’s potential impact on student achievement and ‘‘highlighted recent improvements in student achievement’’ while expressing concern about the ‘‘negative consequences of a failed referendum.’’ The FEA emphasized it would advocate for measures to ‘‘prioritize student success and provide staff with the necessary resources needed to do our job.’’
FEA also announced a community outreach event scheduled for March 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Hive to give ‘‘big picture information’’ and hear community questions and concerns. The presenter said the event is intended to provide answers where possible and collect questions for follow-up.
The board did not take a formal action on the referendum during the meeting; the remarks were recorded as public comment and advocacy by the teachers’ association.
