Strode Station Elementary staff presented an instructional spotlight to the Clark County Board of Education, outlining the school's focus on differentiation this year.
Principal Anidria Costin said the school identified three "big rocks" for 2024–25 (congruence, differentiation and monitoring) and narrowed its focus to differentiation after reviewing i-Ready and KSA data. "We need to focus on differentiation — how are we meeting the needs of all the kiddos in our building?" Costin said.
Teachers described classroom practices: kindergarten and first-grade teachers said they recently reorganized phonics instruction into smaller flexible groups based on mastery; second-grade teachers use mixed-level "stallion time" to match students to targeted support; third grade groups students by ability for reading and math with scaffolded instruction; fourth-grade staff described six daily groups (about 40 minutes) targeting tier 2/3 students and offering enrichment for high performers. The related-arts team (music, art, PE, library, STEM) described adaptive instruments and hands-on STEM projects that support diverse learners.
Ending: The principal said the staff will continue intentional, data-driven differentiation next year to sustain student growth and closed by thanking trustees for the opportunity to present.
