Palm Springs Unified board recognizes employees, students and new administrators at Feb. 25 meeting

The Palm Springs Unified School District board of education honored multiple staff and students at its Feb. 25 meeting, presenting employee-of-the-month recognitions, student awards and certificates for participants in the district27s new-and-current administrator academy.
Brad Sauer, executive director of human resources, introduced participants in the administrator academy and read the names of attendees who received certificates. Sauer described the academy as a multi-module program that covers district departments and said about 13 of 16 participants were present for recognition.
The board also recognized Heather McCarthy, librarian at Rancho Mirage High School, and Lisa Thomas, ASB technician at Rancho Mirage. Students who appeared in a video and spoke in person praised both employees for their dedication; McCarthy thanked the board and said the high school had been "a wonderful home" during her years at the site.
The board commended student Olivia Aparicio of Rancho Mirage High School for recruiting peers to an equity-related trip, and the board noted several Desert Hot Springs High School students who won awards at a regional KidWind competition and will advance to the national challenge.
Superintendent Dr. Signore and principals joined the recognitions on stage; honorees thanked colleagues and family members who attended. No board action was required for the recognitions.
The recognitions were part of agenda item 10; the board paused other business to invite honorees forward and take group photos.
