Summary

Consent items: The board approved the consent agenda (personnel items, meeting minutes, bills and authorizations, wires, a Quiz Bowl field trip request and a master lease agreement with Apple). The motion was made by Peterson and seconded by Valdez; the chair called for the vote and the motion carried.
Donations resolution (voice/roll-call): A separate donations approval required resolution and roll-call; trustees recorded “yes” votes during the roll-call (Zittick, Valdez, Peterson, Smith, Aldrich, Johnson, Brophy). The resolution passed.
Softball scoreboards (action item 11.1): The Shakopee Girls Softball Association offered to purchase two electronic scoreboards — one for each of two upper fields near West Middle School — at a total purchase cost of approximately $25,230. The district’s installation responsibility was estimated at about $5,000 to run electrical connections. The board approved accepting the donation and authorized district installation work; motion by Aldridge (Aldrich), second by Brophy, and the motion carried.
Memorandum of understanding with Southwest Metro (action item 11.2): The board approved a memorandum of understanding to allow Southwest Metro to use the Shakopee High School field house as a reunification site in a crisis. The MOU is intended to allow Southwest Metro to rely on an existing district reunification framework rather than develop their own from scratch. Motion by Peterson, second by Johnson; vote: motion carries.
Native advisory concurrence (action item 9.1): The board voted to concur with the Native American Parent Advisory Committee’s letter of concurrence for the 2024–25 school year. The motion was made by Peterson, seconded by Brophy; passed by voice vote.
Notes on voting and finance: The board discussed donation timing and noted that the scoreboard donation paperwork would be expected on a future consent agenda. For the MOU, district staff will coordinate operational details with Southwest Metro’s safety and security coordinator so that drills, transportation and communications issues are addressed if the MOU is ever executed.
