She said existing interlocal agreements with local medical schools provided a template and that the school will remit a stipend to the county to offset training costs; the student or school will cover travel and housing costs. Dr. Zing said county students retain priority for rotations and the visiting student would be slotted into an available spring rotation (March or April).
Commissioners expressed support for expanding the pipeline for forensic pathology and asked about relationships with local residency programs; Dr. Zing said there is no local pathology residency and the office currently engages with internal‑medicine residents for periodic seminars but aims to gradually build the local pipeline through externships and visiting rotations.
No formal action was taken; staff will finalize an interlocal agreement patterned on existing templates if the board has no objection.
