Solon Board approves minutes, bills, personnel actions and policy updates; schedules retiree hearing

At its Feb. 24 meeting the Solon Board of Education approved a series of routine business and personnel items, including minutes, payment of bills, policy updates, retire/rehire actions and notices of retirement.
The board approved the minutes from the special and regular meetings of Feb. 10 and authorized payment of bills totaling $501.66. The motion to approve the minutes was moved by Mrs. Barksdale and seconded by Mrs. Abramowitz; the bills motion was moved by Mr. Heckman and seconded by Mr. Patton. Both measures passed on roll-call votes.
The board voted to adopt updates to bylaws, policies and administrative guidelines that the board said bring district policies into alignment with current state law and current practice. That measure passed on a roll-call vote.
In personnel actions the board approved the rehiring of retired employee Greg Krasinski in compliance with Ohio Revised Code 3307.353 and the district’s collective bargaining agreement with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees. The board also approved providing public notice of the intent to rehire retiree Vicki Kendra and scheduled a public hearing on that rehire at a regularly scheduled board meeting on April 7, 2025, consistent with the retiree-hire incentives in the collective bargaining agreement between the Solon Board of Education and the Solon Education Association.
Other personnel approvals included acceptance of listed resignations; approval of substitute teachers on an as-needed basis for the 2024–25 school year; approval of supplemental and pupil activity contracts for spring sports (baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, softball, track) and other activities, including a newly listed middle-school intramural "Pokemon" offering; approval of an unpaid childcare leave under the CBA for an employee identified as Kircher for the 2025–26 school year; approval of a home instruction tutor for a special-education student for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year; and approval of tuition reimbursements as noted in the meeting attachments.
