Solon Board approves contract to hire Lauren Mead as digital media manager

The Solon Board of Education on Feb. 24 approved a contract with Lauren Mead to serve as the district’s digital media manager from April 14, 2025, through June 30, 2027.
Board leaders said the position is part of a strategic plan to centralize and strengthen communications with families by keeping the district website current and expanding social-media outreach. Board members noted the role will relieve existing staff who have accumulated additional duties over time.
The contract was moved by Mr. Heckman and seconded by Mr. Patton. The roll call vote recorded yes votes from Mrs. Barksdale, Mrs. Abramowitz, Mr. Heckman, Mr. Patton and Mrs. Glavin; the motion carried.
According to materials attached to the agenda and read into the record, Mead previously worked in communications roles outside the district, including positions noted as the Boston Globe and the Independent in England, and was employed in Beachwood before accepting the Solon position. The board said Mead is present in the audience and welcomed her to the district.
Board members and staff described the hire as a planned augmentation of communications capacity rather than a one-time change in duties.
The board completed the formal roll-call vote and extended an official welcome to Mead following the approval.
