Exodus Family Institute seeks board approval to apply for CDBG funds for workforce housing

Mary Parnell, co‑founder and board chair of Exodus Family Institute, delivered a prepared statement during the meeting’s public-comment period asking the board to place on a future agenda a request to allow Exodus to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to cover roads and infrastructure for a planned 21‑home workforce housing project in the Shiloh District.
Parnell said the project, called Homes by Jones, would build 21 three‑bedroom, two‑bath homes on 16 acres and is targeted to local workforce households such as teachers, first responders and health‑care employees. She said Exodus estimates roads and infrastructure would add about $100,000 per home without outside assistance and that the organization is not requesting direct county funding; Exodus plans to use the George Washington Regional Commission to help prepare the CDBG application. Parnell asked the board to add the item to a future meeting agenda so the organization can proceed with the application.
The board recorded the statement and indicated staff will place it on a future agenda for consideration; no formal action on the request occurred at the Jan. 7 meeting.
