Supervisors adopt 2025 bylaws and meeting schedule, direct staff to condense governance documents

The King George County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 7 adopted the 2025 bylaws, standards of conduct and code of ethics, accepting a proposed amendment that would allow a majority of the board to place an item on a meeting agenda. The board also approved the county’s 2025 meeting calendar and moved the first November meeting from Tuesday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Nov. 3.
Supervisor Kathy Bender proposed that the documents be consolidated because the code of ethics and standards of conduct overlap. Several supervisors supported directing the county attorney and county administrator to review and condense the current three documents into one or two streamlined documents. The board adopted the documents as presented for immediate use while directing staff to draft the consolidated version for future consideration and formal adoption.
Board members also approved the 2025 meeting schedule with the single change to move the November meeting to Nov. 3 to avoid Election Day scheduling conflicts. The board discussed logistics for scheduling around election-related dates and noted staff will return with any suggested revisions as part of the governance-document consolidation process.
