Fresno County Public Health wins state award for rural mobile health program funded by $6 million in ARPA funds

The Fresno County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 recognized the Department of Public Health for receiving the 2024 California State Association of Counties Challenge Award for its rural mobile health program.
County officials said the program, supported by $6,000,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated by the board, provides medical and vision services at no cost via mobile units directly to agricultural workers and residents in Fresno County’s rural areas.
Since the program began in February 2023, county figures show more than 10,000 patients have received medical services and community health workers have reached more than 89,000 community members with resources and health education.
The board presented the recognition during its regular meeting; the award is from the California State Association of Counties and was identified by county staff as recognizing rural outreach through mobile health units.
