Board approves purchase of used 2020 CAT backhoe for county landfill

The Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Feb. 18 the purchase of a used 2020 Caterpillar backhoe for $68,000 to replace a machine that suffered an unrecoverable engine failure at the county landfill.
Mark Harrison, Assistant Director of General Services, told the board the landfill backhoe had a “major engine failure and it cannot be repaired due to its age,” forcing the county to rent a replacement to maintain operations. Harrison said staff located a 2020 model at Carter Machinery, had it inspected and found it “in good condition for a reasonable price of $68,000.” He said the county would fund the purchase from the recycling fund.
Supervisor Miss Jarrett moved to accept the purchase; the motion was seconded and passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
Ending: The county will take delivery and retire the rental machine; funding will come from the recycling fund as planned.
