VDOT updates Cumberland supervisors on snow response, Route 60 work and signage research

Hocker said a Route 60 speed-transition question (how to mark speed changes approaching the courthouse area) was raised and that he would follow up with board member Staney to provide a specific response. He also said the department placed two static “buggy” signs at a county approach from Farmville and is researching a statewide flashing-sign program; whether any flashing signs will come to Cumberland is not yet decided. “I’ll continue to update the board as I have information,” Hocker said.
Board members asked about counters to measure traffic on rural routes and about targeted signage where multiple accidents occurred. Hocker said VDOT can deploy counters in primitive/isolated areas to quantify traffic volume and that crews will revisit earlier signage placements.
