Councilmembers raised questions Nov. 7 about a water bill shown in the check register that was labeled with an August 2024 date and reflected a summertime usage spike. Staff said the statement likely was labeled incorrectly and that the town has swapped meters so some now read remotely.
Councilmembers said bills jumped when the town pumped water to pressurize lines earlier in the year and after a pump malfunction. Staff agreed to pull the meter identification numbers, confirm read dates and check the two meters that serve the pavilion and fire station. One staff member said the bill in question covered Aug. 27 to Sept. 26, 2024, which would place the usage before contractor work on the system, and staff said they would gather meter IDs and bring corrected records to the next meeting.
Council did not change the register at the meeting but voted to approve the budget and check register after the questions and directed staff to follow up on meter data and billing labels.
