Councilmembers told the Sept. 5 meeting that donated sod placed at the Walsburg cemetery did not receive adequate watering and that much of the new turf died. Town staff said recent rain helped, but that a weed spray by Buffalo's is scheduled for Sept. 10 to treat thistle and other weeds.
Town staff cautioned that chemical treatment could affect fresh flowers and that the contractor advised no watering for 24 hours and no mowing for 48 hours after application. The town selected Buffalo's for the work at a price about $500 lower than an alternate bidder (Grid Iron), and staff said the town will proceed with that vendor.
Why it matters: Cemetery upkeep was raised by residents and staff as a public-facing maintenance issue; the council did not authorize additional funds beyond the contracted treatment and staff will monitor results.
