Town schedules weed spraying at cemetery after donated sod fails to establish
Summary
After donated sod at the Walsburg cemetery failed to take, the council reported complaints and approved a lower-cost bid for weed spraying; the contractor will apply herbicide on Sept. 10 with instructions to avoid ornament damage and follow no-watering/mowing hold times.

Councilmembers reported the town received donated sod for the cemetery that did not receive sufficient watering and much of it died; recent rain has partly helped but residents have complained. The council discussed plans to treat weeds and to protect headstones and fresh floral arrangements.
Staff told the council that Buffalos (contractor) will return on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to spray weeds and thistles across the cemetery. Town staff and Alicia (staff) coordinated on timing and restrictions; the council noted there should be no watering for 24 hours and no mowing for 48 hours after spraying, and that fresh flowers may be affected.
The council said the Buffalos bid was about $500 lower than an alternate bidder, Grid Iron, and that staff would proceed with the lower bid. Residents should expect temporary discolored grass in sprayed areas while weeds are controlled.
