Council reports donated sod failures at cemetery; herbicide spraying scheduled Sept. 10
Summary
Town staff said donated sod at the cemetery largely died for lack of watering; Buffalo (vendor) will spray weeds Sept. 10 and staff warned about no watering or mowing for a brief period after treatment. The bid came in about $500 cheaper than an alternate contractor.

Wallsburg staff reported that donated sod placed at the cemetery did not receive sufficient watering and that much of the new sod has died; recent rain has partially helped, staff said.
To address persistent weeds staff said Buffalo (vendor) will return Tuesday, Sept. 10 to spray the cemetery for thistle and other weeds. Staff warned residents that the treated area should not be watered for 24 hours and should not be mowed for 48 hours after treatment; fresh flowers may be affected by the herbicide.
The vendor’s price was reported to be about $500 less than an alternate contractor (Grid Iron), according to staff. Councilmembers said they expect follow‑up on irrigation and maintenance so the donated sod has a better chance of survival and that residents may voice concerns about the visual condition.
No formal council action was taken; staff will coordinate the weed spray, post notices about the treatment restrictions and work with the clerk on ongoing cemetery maintenance.
