The Wallsburg Town Council on Sept. 5 voted to accept the planning commission's recommendations and to issue building-permit approval letters for two private projects, and heard an update on cemetery landscaping and weed control.
The council considered a request from Craig Kaiser for a detached garage. The town planner informed the council the planning commission had reviewed setbacks and other requirements and recommended issuing a building-permit approval letter. Terry Issel moved to accept the planning commission's recommendation and Mary Piscitelli seconded; the motion passed with an aye vote. Kaiser confirmed he had paid review fees and that the prior permit had expired.
The council then considered a request from Mylett Adams to install a greenhouse on property adjacent to a town pasture. The planning commission had determined the proposal met the town development code requirements and recommended issuing a permit letter. Scott Larson moved to accept the recommendation; Terry Issel seconded, and the motion passed.
On cemetery maintenance, staff reported donated sod had been installed but not sufficiently watered and that recent rain had helped. A contractor (Buffalos) is scheduled to spray the cemetery for weeds on Sept. 10; staff advised that newly placed flowers could be affected and noted a 24-hour no-water and 48-hour no-mow instruction after spraying. The spray bid came in about $500 cheaper than another bidder, and staff said they would proceed with the lower bid.
The council voted on the two permit recommendations and approved proceeding with cemetery weed control; no additional votes were required for cemetery maintenance other than accepting the contract.
