Councilors received construction updates on Sept. 5: the City Park Trail project drew seven bidders, the low bid came in approximately 58 percent of the estimate, and the town expects a notice to proceed within about 10 days. Councilors said UDOT contributed funds during the application phase that now will be returned because the project came in under budget; the town expects to retain some contingency funding for change orders.
On the Main Canyon Road project councilors heard the design is progressing, staff expect to forward final plans in about one month and to advertise for bids before the end of the year. An archaeological survey is scheduled for the coming week to assess a historic irrigation ditch feature; environmental clearances must be completed before construction can proceed.
Why it matters: The park trail award and favorable bids free town resources and improve the town’s track record when applying for future grant funding. Councilors noted that a project that comes in under budget strengthens future grant applications for other trails.
Timing: Project schedules discussed included an anticipated 25 working-day construction window for the park trail once work begins and a design-to-bid schedule for Main Canyon Road that would position the town to advertise for construction by year-end. Councilors also discussed avoiding asphalt placement after mid-October and the need to reduce automatic irrigation prior to construction so turf is not soft during excavation.
Councilors said staff will return with the construction contract and a pre-construction meeting is expected before work begins.
