Wallsburg updates Main Canyon Road design; City Park Trail contract awarded and under fast timeline
Summary
Town staff updated the Wallsburg Town Council on design and environmental steps for Main Canyon Road and reported that UDOT awarded the City Park Trail contract to Geneva after competitive bids; the low bidder came in well under estimate and the town expects completion before the end of October.

Troy Ossler, staff member, told the Wallsburg Town Council at its Sept. 5 meeting that design work on Main Canyon Road is continuing and that an archaeologist will inspect a historic irrigation feature next week as part of the environmental review.
"We're just proceeding with the design on that. We anticipate getting that... to plan ahead in about a month, 2 months after that, getting PSA with the goal of having that project bid before the end of the year," Ossler said.
The design and environmental steps are needed before the town can advertise the project, Ossler said, and clearing the Main Canyon Road job from the town's project list will allow the town to seek other grant opportunities.
Ossler also gave an update on the City Park Trail, saying the town received seven bids and that most were close to the engineer's estimate. "Our low bidder came in at 58% of the estimate," he said, and he reported that UDOT awarded the project to Geneva and a notice to proceed is expected in about 10 days. Ossler said Geneva anticipates finishing the trail in about 25 working days after mobilization.
Ossler said the town negotiated to return some UDOT funds it no longer needed and that the town expects to retain contingency funds for potential construction changes. He recommended the council consider adding park amenities—benches and trees—back into the plan during the pre-construction meeting; he estimated roughly $50,000 would be available for those features.
The council did not take formal action on either project during the meeting; both updates were informational.
