Council schedules cemetery weed spray after donated sod fails to take

Council members said donated sod installed at the cemetery failed to receive sufficient watering and that recent rain had only partially improved conditions. The town contracted a company (referred to in the meeting as Buffalo/Buffalos) to spray weeds and thistles on Sept. 10; the council said the contract came in about $500 cheaper than an alternate vendor, Gridiron.
Staff advised that fresh flowers should be removed before spraying because herbicide could affect them; the council also announced no watering for 24 hours and no mowing for 48 hours after application.
Council members said they will continue to monitor cemetery turf and address resident concerns about maintenance.
