Council members reported progress on two public-works efforts: the City Park Trail construction and the Main Canyon Road design.
The City Park Trail solicitation drew seven bidders, six of them within 10% of the engineer’s estimate. Council staff reported the low bid came in far below the estimate and that UDOT awarded the project to the low bidder, described in the meeting as "Geneva." Council staff said a notice to proceed was expected in about 10 days and that the contractor anticipates completing the trail in roughly 25 working days once work begins.
Staff also said UDOT had previously provided additional funding that will be returned because the low bid came under estimate; the town will retain contingency funds in the project to cover any overruns. Council members discussed potential additions the town may restore to the project — benches, trees and similar amenities — and estimated roughly $50,000 in available funds for such add‑backs.
On Main Canyon Road, staff reported that design work is ongoing and that an archaeologist will be on site the following week to inspect a historic irrigation ditch that may be a cultural resource requiring mitigation as part of the environmental review. Staff expects environmental clearance, then procurement of a professional services agreement (PSA) and—if schedule holds—a bid solicitation before year end.
Council members noted a project completion deadline tied to asphalt work after mid-October and said they will coordinate timing, including reduced irrigation/watering of park turf, so contractors can access and compact surfaces for paving.
