Council hears updates on Deep Fork Trail and May Avenue bridge design; parts of trail expected to open soon

Council members received updates on two transportation projects: the Deep Fork Trail and the May Avenue bridge.
Debbie Miller of the Public Works Department said Item Y is the final change order before the city will accept phase 1, phase 3B and phase 4 of the Deep Fork Trail; two additional phases remain in design and staff are negotiating alignments with some property owners. Miller said the trail was designed with trailheads at each reachable segment and that portions should be accessible soon, though an exact opening date was not provided.
On the May Avenue bridge project, Miller said the work remains in design as a 2017 bond project with additional ACOG funding. The amendment to the A&E contract directs the consultant to study beautification options including trees and architectural form liners; the existing reinforced‑concrete box within Cloverleaf Creek is also under review. Bidding is expected early in 2026 through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation process.
Councilman James Cooper asked when residents could expect sections to open; Miller said substantial completion of the current work should allow public access to trail segments soon and that staff would supply a more exact date.
