Board approves low bids for Prairie View and Sand Lake STEM labs; project over budget but within contingency

District Director of Facility Services Chad Brando presented the bid results, saying the district received multiple bids across four scopes: general construction, plumbing, HVAC and electrical. "The combined total lowest base bids came to $217,092 which was over our budget by $9,092. We're still well within our contingency funds," Brando said.

Brando said contracts were solicited on Jan. 27 and opened Feb. 13. He characterized the bidding as competitive and said the district verified contractors— understanding of the project before recommendation.
Brando described basic phasing and logistics: work will start this summer, crews will erect dust walls to limit disruption and will sequence work to leave paths to exterior doors. Because Prairie View runs a summer school program and both sites host YMCA before- and after-school care, staff are coordinating with those programs to maintain services while construction proceeds.
Discussion vs. decision: The board received the bid report and accepted the package as part of the consent agenda. No separate roll-call on the STEM bids was taken; the consent motion passed by voice.
