District reports HVAC, roof and power-repair work; high school switchgear failure restored over weekend

San Felipe-Del Rio CISD maintenance and operations staff updated trustees Feb. 24 on renovation and repairs across district campuses, citing completed roof work, ongoing plumbing and drywall installation at Cody Wardlaw and a weekend emergency power repair at Del Rio High School.
Facilities director Miguel Chapa (presenting) reported that roof replacement at Cody Wardlaw is finished, plumbing rough-ins are two-thirds complete and window installation has begun on the building's west side. The gym floor has been sanded and sealed; painting and final varnish are scheduled for May.
Chapa described a Friday incident at Del Rio High School when a switchgear overheated and caused partial de-energization of portions of the campus. Staff isolated damaged equipment and provided temporary power; materials were procured and technicians ran a new overhead conduit run into the mechanical closet over the weekend. Power was restored Sunday afternoon.
"Option 1 was to extract the damaged cables from the existing conduit, but that option failed," Chapa said. "So we proceeded with option 2, which meant running a new conduit run completely overhead and into and penetrated the building in the mechanical closet." He thanked outside contractor Dynamic Pro Electric and district maintenance staff for their weekend work.
Chapa also reported maintenance metrics across departments: over the previous 90 days the maintenance department logged 797 work orders with 89% completed; technology logged 2,361 tickets at 99% completion; transportation logged 230 tickets with 96% completion.
The board was told the district has released a bid advertisement for perimeter fencing at San Felipe Memorial Middle School with a bid-opening date of April 1; all projects are pending citizen committee review and recommendation.
No formal action connected to the maintenance report was taken during the Feb. 24 meeting.
