Oconee Recovery Coalition seeks space, invites commissioners to listening session

Representatives of the Oconee Recovery Coalition asked the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners for support to establish a recovery community organization (RCO) in the Milledgeville area and invited commissioners to attend a listening session.
Speakers said the RCO would operate as a peer‑run nonprofit that provides a sober clubhouse, peer support, job readiness assistance and prosocial activities for people in recovery and post-treatment. Organizers said such centers exist in other Georgia cities and that the Georgia Coalition for Recovery supports their efforts; they invited commissioners to a listening session scheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Georgia War Veterans Home recreation hall (signage described in their presentation).
Speakers said RCO services are peer driven and complement, rather than replace, formal treatment programs and court-supervised services. They noted that 46 communities in Georgia already have RCOs and that the model can reduce recidivism and improve community outcomes. The coalition asked for county support and said the upcoming listening session would catalog local needs and opportunities for partnership.
