Trustees adopt revised emergency medical services fee schedule; lower charge for 'treat-no-transport' calls

The Village of Salem Lakes Board of Trustees approved a change to its emergency medical services fee schedule to reduce the charge for responses in which a patient is treated on scene but not transported.
A trustee moved to approve the fee adjustments and proposed that the treat-no-transport (TNT) charge for basic life support (BLS) be set at $500 while BLS transport and advanced life support (ALS) transport fees remain at $1,600. The board discussed that previously TNT responses were billed at the same higher transport rate in some cases; the change is intended to ease costs for residents who receive on-scene treatment but are not transported.
An EMS/fire representative explained that TNT situations include low-level care such as taking a blood pressure or bandaging a minor head wound, and that ALS-level TNT calls typically still use more resources (for example, diabetic patients who receive intravenous treatment and remain at home). The board agreed the revised schedule should be easier to explain to residents and reduce complaints about high TNT bills.
Trustees approved the resolution amending the EMS fee schedule (resolution number recorded in the agenda as 2025.02.0122) pursuant to section 272-11 of the village code, with the board noting the net effect will be to make some charges less expensive for residents compared with the previous fee chart.
