School committee approves admission of Italian exchange student for 2025–26 without diploma expectation

On Feb. 25, 2025, the Longmeadow School Committee approved admitting an Italian international exchange student to attend grade 12 at Longmeadow High School for the 2025–26 school year without the expectation of receiving a Longmeadow High School diploma, as allowed under district nonresident-student policy.
High School Principal Tom Landers submitted a memorandum attesting that the exchange student meets policy requirements, including placement through an accredited international-exchange organization, acceptable academic transcript, secured housing and the understanding that the student will not pursue a diploma. The superintendent recommended approval.
Motion: "I move the school committee approve the request for an ANB education, Italian international exchange student attend grade 12 without the expectation of an LHS diploma at Longmeadow High School for the 2025–26 school year." The motion was seconded by Mikayla.
Vote: roll-call vote carried unanimously: Jamie — Yes; Mikayla — Yes; Adam — Yes; Chair (unnamed) — Yes.
Committee members welcomed the student (named in remarks as Irene and Fiore) and thanked the host family. Administrators noted the district typically accepts one or two exchange students per year and that this is the first exchange placement received for 2025–26 to date.
No further action was required beyond the approval.
