Habersham County commissioners on Jan. 27 approved several board and commission appointments and reappointments for unexpired and full terms.
Among the actions, the board approved Commissioner Woodall’s nomination of Richard Thornton to fill an unexpired term on the Planning Commission; the motion carried by voice vote. Commissioners also reappointed Jimmy Kowalski to the RC&D (Chattahoochee RC&D) position at large and appointed other members to boards including the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission (GMRC) and the Board of Health. Several appointments to the dangerous-dog committee were made, including a reappointment of veterinarian Dr. Emily Allison to an at-large seat and discussion of a human-society representative; one reappointment (Jackie Hanby) was tabled while staff confirmed representation with the society.
The board recorded motions and seconded nominations for each seat and approved them by voice vote. Staff said one item was tabled to allow follow-up with the animal-society representative to confirm continued participation.
Commissioners said the slate of appointments aims to fill vacancies and ensure county representation on regional and advisory bodies; staff will complete appointment paperwork and publish rosters.
