Walworth County Land Conservation Committee approves 2025 dues to Wisconsin Land and Water

Walworth County Land Conservation Committee members voted to pay the countys 2025 dues to the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association, a county staff-supported organization, during their Jan. 20 meeting.
The committee approved the payment after county staff and committee members described the associations recent outreach, training and advocacy work and confirmed the dues are already included in the Land Resources Management (LRM) 2025 budget. Motion by Reif, second by Konke; vote recorded as all in favor.
Nick, a county staff member, told the committee the dues are an annual invoice the department pays and that the fee level is comparable to recent years. "In your packet is a letter of what Wisconsin Land and Water's accomplishments were in 2024," the staff member said, adding the dues cover advocacy, continuing education and technical support the association provides to county staff and elected LCC members.
Chair Brian Holt described his multi-year involvement with the association's regional and state boards and said the county has benefited from information and resources pulled back from conferences and technical committees. "I've pulled a lot of great stuff back to the county just from that involvement alone," Holt said, noting the organization targets staff needs as well as elected-member education.
Committee members debated briefly whether routine, budgeted memberships should appear on the agenda. A committee member said some county memberships were historically dropped during budget cuts, and another suggested converting this line item into an annual informational report tied to the county poster contest; committee members agreed to add an annual Land and Water update to future agendas.
The committee did not change the funding source or budget allocation; staff said the payment will be processed from the LRM 2025 budget as planned.
