Committee members asked what the replacement would do; staff explained it covers core servers, network equipment and the infrastructure that houses HHS data, logins and critical software — the “heart” of HHS network operations. IT staff and the vendor had warned of a possible 10% tariff-related price increase; purchasing staff said the committee's intent to act quickly was partly to attempt to lock a contract before any tariff increase took effect.
Supervisors asked for examples of the system’s role; staff said the equipment supports security, authentication, data storage and day-to-day application access for HHS employees. The committee approved the cooperative purchase in voice vote after discussion and noted it intended to expedite the procurement to avoid the tariff.
